Bear Metallurgical Announces New President

30-year Industry Veteran, To Lead Company

Bear Metallurgical Company (BMC), one of the world’s leading producers of high-quality ferroalloy products, has named C. Michael Bourgeois as its new president.  Bringing more than 30 years of industry experience, Bourgeois succeeds BMC founder Kevin Jones who will remain as CEO.

“It is a privilege to take the reins of BMC, a company whose well-respected name is synonymous with quality,” says Bourgeois.  “Mr. Jones and BMC’s employees have forged this organization’s success with high ethical standards, commitment to employee growth and responsibility to the community and the environment. I am honored to uphold these commitments and to lead BMC in its vision and its continued growth.”

As president, Bourgeois will oversee the daily business operations and activities of BMC’s 35 employees at its 100,000 square-foot production site in Butler, Pa., just outside of Pittsburgh.  Since its inception in 1990, BMC has produced more than 60 million pounds of ferrovanadium and 40 million pounds of ferromolybdenum for use in the specialty steel, automotive and foundry industries.

“Mr. Bourgeois is a talented individual whose experiences will allow him to successfully lead BMC,” says Jones.  “He has proven himself as a leader and I feel confident that he is the best man for the job.”  He adds, “BMC is in very capable hands under his care.”

Bourgeois began his accomplished career with Amax Nickel Refining Company, Inc. and Amax Metals Recovery, Inc. / CRI-MET Partnership in Louisiana.  During his 27 years with the company, he held several management positions and served on the Board of Directors, earning the title of Vice President & General Manager in 1996. He also served as Manager of Roaster Sales & Catalyst Logistics at Metallurg Vanadium in Cambridge, Ohio.   Most recently, Bourgeois served as an independent consultant to Gulf Chemicals of Freeport, Texas.  He holds an undergraduate Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Accounting and Finance from Tulane University in New Orleans and also served in the United States Navy as an air crewman and as a Weapons and Tactical Coordinator.
